Curriculum Intent - Health and Social Care

About 3 million people work in health or social care. Health care roles include doctors, pharmacists, nurses, midwives and health care assistants, while social care roles include care assistants, occupational therapists, counsellors and administrative roles. Together they account for nearly one in ten of all paid jobs in the UK. Demand for both health and social care is likely to rise so they will continue to play a key role in UK society, and the demand for people to fill these vital jobs will increase.

This said, we aim to provide pupils with essential specialist knowledge of the health, social and childcare sectors, whilst developing transferable skills which will enhance their employability and contribute to both their personal development and future economic well-being. Pupils will understand and be able to apply the fundamental principles and concepts of the rights of individuals, person-centred values, effective communication and how to protect individuals in health and social care settings.

We deliver our curriculum intent on a subject level by:

At KS4, our students follow the OCR Cambridge National L1/2 Health and Social Care course which develops student independence and confidence in using skills that would be relevant to the health and social care sector and develop learning and skills that can be used in other life and work situations. Such knowledge and skills include: communicating effectively with individuals or groups; researching topics and recording research sources; interpreting findings and prese<span style=">nting evidence, and planning creative activities.
