We’re delighted to announce that the Skills for Success Programme has officially launched for our Year 9 students at Our Lady & St Bede Catholic School in Stockton. This inspiring five‑week initiative, delivered in partnership with Stockton‑on‑Tees Borough Council, is designed to help students build confidence, explore future pathways and understand how classroom learning connects to the wider world.

Exploring Stockton’s Growth Sectors

Throughout the programme, students take part in sector‑focused workshops, industry visits and hands‑on challenges led by real professionals. These engaging sessions introduce Year 9 to some of Stockton’s most exciting growth industries, including:

  • Health & Social Care
  • Digital & Games Development
  • Maritime & Logistics
  • Green Energy
  • Creative Industries

These opportunities give students meaningful insights into the careers shaping the region’s future — and the roles they could one day lead within them.

Building Essential Life and Career Skills

Each week, students work on developing key transferable skills that will support them far beyond their time at school. These include:

  • Teamwork
  • Communication
  • Resilience
  • Problem-Solving
  • Leadership
  • Oracy and Presentation Skills

By engaging with real projects and professionals, Year 9 are growing their confidence and starting to see just how capable they truly are.

A Weekly Journey of Growth and Discovery

Every week, students:

  • Explore a new career sector
  • Build a toolkit of transferable skills
  • Meet and work with industry professionals
  • Strengthen their belief in what they can achieve

This blend of practical experience and personal development makes Skills for Success a powerful stepping stone toward future choices and opportunities.

Celebrating Their Achievements

The programme will conclude with a special celebration event where students present their final elevator pitches - showcasing the progress they’ve made, the ideas they’ve developed and the confidence they’ve gained.

Looking Ahead With Pride

We are incredibly excited to see our young people continue to grow, challenge themselves and take positive steps toward their future aspirations.
The Skills for Success Programme is already making a fantastic impact - and this is just the beginning.
