Following last week’s fantastic visit for our Year 9 and Year 10 pupils, it was the turn of 40 Year 7 and Year 8 pupils to experience the impact of our Lumina Programme - and what a powerful morning it was.
Thinking Bigger and Aiming Higher
Our younger pupils stepped into a world beyond their everyday experience, exploring new subjects, ideas and opportunities designed to raise aspirations and broaden hearts and minds. Through engaging sessions and thought‑provoking discussions, pupils were encouraged to think ambitiously and believe in what they could achieve.
Confidence, Curiosity and Ambition
The excitement, curiosity and ambition on display was wonderful to see. Moments like these capture exactly what Lumina is about - opening doors, building confidence and helping pupils to see themselves as future global players.
Thank You to Stockton Sixth Form College
A huge thank you to Stockton Sixth Form College for once again hosting and facilitating such an inspiring experience. Our pupils left motivated, energised and ready to take their next steps with confidence.
Lumina truly is aspiration in action.
Hear from our Media Correspondent, Emily:
The Lumina Programme is an academic programme created to give opportunities to students who show great academic potential and give them a chance to shine. A pupil who is part of this programme will be a deep thinker (linking to St. Augustine), a disciplined scholar (linking to St. Bede) and a confident and ethical leader (linking to John Newman). They will learn to share their abilities and use them to achieve success and be just and fair.
Every Wednesday during form time, students who are part of the programme will complete sequences of tasks, encouraging them to think deeply and expand their mind, challenging them, and allowing them to learn about the wider world. They also receive articles, extracts, case studies, and newspaper articles to read every half term, giving them opportunities to learn about the world and current events. This encourages them to be aware of the challenges faced by people around the world but also letting them learn about the positive aspects of the world.
Students who are part of Lumina also get to experience masterclasses at local colleges to enjoy learning about interesting subjects including psychology, law, politics, and sociology, letting them embrace their creativity and unique ideas that they don’t necessarily get to express at school as they are experiencing new and different subjects, also helping them develop ideas about their interests in the future, after school. Earlier this year, students experienced these masterclasses, that took place at Stockton Sixth Form College, giving them new experiences and opportunities to shine.
The Lumina Programme is designed to provide the stepping stones of learning to those who show great academic promise and give pupils chances to achieve, learn, and develop as not only students, but people. This programme gives students the opportunity to develop their minds, skills and knowledge and can create deep thinkers who understand all aspects of the world they live in.
