A Life-Changing Journey for OLSB Pupils
Pupils from Our Lady & St Bede Catholic Academy in Stockton have returned from an extraordinary pilgrimage to Rome — a journey filled with history, faith, culture and unforgettable moments. Over several packed days, students immersed themselves in the wonders of the Eternal City, exploring world‑famous landmarks and deepening their understanding of the Church’s heritage.
Exploring Ancient Rome
The adventure began with a step back in time as pupils walked through the ancient heart of the city. Highlights included the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Hill, Arch of Constantine and the atmospheric Catacombs of San Callisto. These iconic sites brought history vividly to life, with pupils showing curiosity, respect and real enthusiasm for the stories that shaped Rome.
Faith, Reflection and Awe-Inspiring Basilicas
The group visited several of Rome’s major basilicas, including Santa Maria Maggiore, St John Lateran and St Paul Outside the Walls. Pupils spent time in prayer, reflection and quiet awe as they stood before sacred spaces such as the Holy Cradle and the tombs of Popes. These powerful experiences strengthened their understanding of the global Church and the foundations of their faith.
Iconic Wonders and Thought-Provoking Experiences
From standing beneath the magnificent dome of the Pantheon to visiting the striking Capuchin Crypt, pupils encountered both the beauty and depth of Rome’s spiritual and historical heritage. A visit to the Vatican Museums and the breathtaking Sistine Chapel was a moment they will never forget, closely followed by exploring the grandeur of St Peter’s Basilica — even climbing the Dome for spectacular views across the city.

Memorable Moments and Shared Joy
Alongside the learning and reflection came plenty of joyful highlights: dinner at the Hard Rock Café, an evening visit to the sparkling Trevi Fountain, delicious Italian meals, shopping, laughter and even lunch in Vatican City. Throughout the trip, pupils represented their school with maturity, wonder and gratitude, strengthening friendships and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
An Amazing Opportunity for OLSB Pupils
This remarkable Rome experience allowed pupils to deepen their knowledge, broaden their horizons and connect their learning to real places and stories. It was a journey of faith, discovery and personal growth — one that will remain with them for years to come.
