A Time to Pause and Reflect

As we come to the end of term, the liturgies held today at Our Lady and St Bede Catholic Academy offered our whole school community a meaningful opportunity to pause, reflect, and enter deeply into the significance of Maundy Thursday.

Understanding the Meaning of Maundy Thursday

Maundy Thursday marks the moment when Jesus shared the Last Supper with his disciples. It is a day that calls us to service, humility and love. During this sacred moment, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and gave a new commandment: to love one another as he has loved us. These themes sat at the heart of our liturgies and guided our reflections throughout the day.

A Moving and Prayerful Liturgy

Led by Mr Hughes and Fr Mark, the liturgies brought the Gospel message to life in a truly moving way. Through pupil‑led music, scripture readings and drama, we were reminded that true greatness is found not in power, but in service.
The symbolic washing of the feet was especially powerful, offering a clear reminder of humility, compassion and the importance of putting others before ourselves.

Living Out Our Mission

There was a strong sense of reverence and reflection throughout the liturgies. Pupils engaged with maturity, respect and a clear understanding of what it means to live out our mission each day. These moments encouraged us all to reflect on how we are called to be people of action — to serve others, lift one another up, and love without limits.

Carrying the Message Forward

As we begin the Easter break, we carry with us the message of Maundy Thursday and the call to serve with love and humility.

A Prayer for Our Community

Lord Jesus,
On this holy day, you showed us what it means to serve with love and humility.
Help us to follow your example in our daily lives — to be kind, patient, and to put others before ourselves.
Guide our school community to live out your commandment of love in all that we do.
May we return after Easter renewed, inspired, and ready to serve.
Amen.

We wish all of our families a peaceful, joyful and blessed Easter.
